VIRGINIA BEACH CONVENTION CENTER
The Virginia Beach Convention Center won the National Architecture and Engineering Award in the category of Projects Greater than $75 million. The 516,000-square-foot building’s design is based on nautical themes and seagoing vessels, along with a strong structural support for such endeavors. Images such as sails, yacht fittings, lighthouses, waves and water all find their way into the architectural design vocabulary.
The facility includes 150,000 square feet of exhibition space, 29,000 square feet of meeting space and a 31,000-square-foot ballroom. The building features a glass tower that includes executive meeting rooms. The convention center also includes an expansive exterior glass curtain wall, predominately along the pre-function space. The exhibition space consists of a long-span, clear-span, and structural steel roof structure.
